Next.js development for sites that have to rank and apps that have to scale
We build marketing sites, content hubs and web applications in Next.js and React, tuned for Core Web Vitals and search, then hand over the code and hosting in your name.
Next.js is an open-source React framework, maintained by Vercel, that renders pages on the server or at build time instead of leaving all the work to the visitor's browser. That one difference is why it suits business websites: the HTML arrives complete, so phones show content sooner and search engines and AI crawlers read every word. Meritbyte Technologies, a Nepal-based web and software development company, builds Next.js sites and apps for clients in Nepal, the USA, Australia, Canada and the UK. The site you are reading runs on it.
When is Next.js the right choice?
Pick Next.js when the site has to do more than a theme allows, or when speed and search visibility are worth paying engineers for. It is a strong fit for:
- Marketing sites that compete in search. Server-rendered HTML, a built-in metadata API for titles and canonical URLs, and image and font handling that protects Core Web Vitals.
- Sites with thousands of pages. Location pages, product catalogues and documentation can be generated from a CMS or database and rebuilt only when content changes.
- Web apps with a public face. A logged-in dashboard and a public marketing site can live in one codebase, sharing components and design.
It is the wrong choice when a small business needs to edit five pages itself and has no developer on call. A well-built WordPress site is cheaper to run in that case, and our WordPress development service is the better fit. Our comparison of Next.js vs WordPress walks through the trade-off.
What we build with Next.js
Most of our Next.js work falls into four shapes:
- Headless marketing sites. Content lives in a CMS such as Sanity, Contentful, Strapi or WordPress used headless; Next.js renders it. Editors keep a friendly admin, and the public site stays fast. Our headless CMS guide explains the set-up.
- Programmatic SEO pages. Service-by-city or product-by-category pages generated from structured data, each with unique copy, structured data and internal links, not thin doorway pages.
- Customer portals. Authentication, roles, file downloads, invoices and bookings, backed by an API we build in Node.js or Python.
- Storefronts. A Next.js front end over Shopify, a headless commerce platform or a custom catalogue, when the theme system cannot deliver the experience the brand wants.
How Next.js helps SEO and AI visibility
Search engines can run JavaScript, but they do it later and less reliably than reading HTML. Answer engines and AI crawlers are less patient still: many read only the HTML they are first given. Next.js closes that gap.
- Server rendering and static generation put the full text, headings and links in the first response.
- The Metadata API sets unique titles, descriptions, canonical URLs, Open Graph tags and robots rules per page.
- Structured data (JSON-LD) can be generated from the same content that renders the page, so it never drifts out of date.
- Generated sitemaps, robots rules and llms.txt files come from the same source as the pages.
- Image and font optimisation keeps Largest Contentful Paint at or under 2.5 seconds and layout shift at or under 0.1 on real phones.
Speed alone does not rank a page. Content that answers the query, and other sites that mention you, still matter more; our SEO services cover that side.
How a Next.js project runs with us
- Free scoping call. What the site must do, who edits it, what it connects to. You get back a written scope, a timeline and a number.
- Fixed-price first milestone. Usually the URL plan, the content model, designs for the key templates and a working skeleton on a staging URL.
- Two-week build blocks. Each ends with a demo. You can stop after any block and keep everything built so far.
- Launch. Redirects from the old URLs, analytics, Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools checks, and a close watch on the first week.
- Handover or retainer. Documentation, the Git repository in your organisation, and hosting in your own account.
Where to host a Next.js site
Next.js runs anywhere Node.js runs. We choose hosting on cost, control and where your users are:
| Option | Fits best when | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel | You want the least operations work and preview URLs per change | Usage-based pricing can climb on busy sites |
| Netlify or Cloudflare | Mostly static sites with some server functions | Check feature support for the Next.js version you use |
| AWS, Azure or Google Cloud in a container | You need a specific region, private networking or one bill | You run more of the infrastructure yourself |
| A plain Node.js server | Small budgets and steady traffic | Scaling and patching are on you |
Whichever you choose, the account is yours. See our cloud and DevOps service for the infrastructure side.
Hiring Next.js developers
If you already have a product team and need more hands, our engineers can join it under our Embedded model: they work in your repository and standups and report to your leads. The hire developers page explains how that works. If you are comparing quotes for a full build, our guide on how to compare web development quotes lists what each quote should include.
Frequently asked questions
Is Next.js good for SEO?
Yes, when it is used properly. Next.js renders HTML on the server or at build time, so search engines and AI crawlers read the full content on the first request. It also has a built-in metadata API for titles, descriptions and canonical URLs. The framework removes technical barriers; rankings still depend on content quality, links and relevance.
Is Next.js better than WordPress?
Neither is better in general. Next.js suits sites that need custom features, many generated pages or top-end performance, with a developer available for changes. WordPress suits small teams that want to edit pages themselves at low running cost. Many projects use both: WordPress as a headless CMS and Next.js for the public site.
How much does a Next.js website cost?
It depends on the number of templates, the CMS, integrations and content work, not on the framework itself. Next.js projects usually cost more than a WordPress theme build because more is custom. Meritbyte gives a written scope and a fixed price for the first milestone after a free call, so you know the first commitment before you make it.
Can you migrate our existing React or WordPress site to Next.js?
Yes. We map every existing URL, keep the ones with traffic or links, and redirect the rest with 301s so rankings carry over. Content moves to a CMS or stays in WordPress used headless. The new site runs on a staging URL until the redirect map and analytics are checked.
Do we need Vercel to run Next.js?
No. Vercel makes Next.js easy to host, but the framework runs on any Node.js server, in a Docker container on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, or on platforms such as Netlify and Cloudflare. We pick the host on cost, region and how much infrastructure you want to manage.
